SANTA CLARA, CA – November 4th, 2026 – Open Energy Solutions Inc. (OES) today announced that its OpenDSO IoT Platform for energy is now available on Google Cloud Marketplace. The listing follows OES becoming a Google Cloud Partner.
OpenDSO is a distributed intelligence platform for energy infrastructure, capable of running natively at the edge, on any cloud or on-premises container orchestration environment, such as Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE). Built on the vendor-neutral OpenFMB interoperability framework, it connects to distributed energy resources (DERs) and grid devices from any manufacturer over the protocols they already speak, such as DNP3, Modbus, OpenADR, and IEC 61850, and translates their data into a common model so utilities can mix equipment vendors without being locked into one. Sensing, monitoring and control functions can be executed locally near the device, feeder segment, or substation, where seconds matter.
Google Cloud Marketplace lets users quickly deploy functional software packages that run on Google Cloud. Google Cloud Marketplace allows customers to easily start up a familiar software package with services like Google Compute Engine or Google Cloud Storage, with no manual configuration required.
“Bringing Open Energy Solutions to Google Cloud Marketplace will help customers quickly deploy, manage, and grow the company’s OpenDSO IoT platform on Google Cloud’s trusted, global infrastructure. Open Energy Solutions can now securely scale and support energy and utilities organizations on their digital transformation journeys,” said Dai Vu, Managing Director, Marketplace & ISV GTM Programs at Google Cloud.
Start with one feeder, not a five-year program
Most grid modernization efforts stall on scope: large ADMS or DERMS deployments take years to evaluate, integrate, and deploy, and require staffing few utilities can sustain. OpenDSO is designed for strategic deployments. A utility can start with a single high-DER circuit, a substation with aging assets, or one battery fleet, gain real-time observability into those assets, and add automation only where operators decide it belongs.
“Grid modernization shouldn’t require a multi-year integration program or a large IT department to get started. With OpenDSO on Google Cloud Marketplace, a utility of any size can begin where the need is most pressing, validate its use cases, and see value early,” said Dileep Rudran, Head of Products at Open Energy Solutions.
Built for lean operations teams
Municipal utilities and electric cooperatives serve a large share of U.S. customers, often with small operations staffs that cover dispatch, field work, and planning at once. OpenDSO watches the grid edge around the clock, flags the conditions an experienced operator would catch, and carries out pre-approved responses, so a lean team can keep pace as rooftop solar, storage, and EV loads grow.
“Public power systems and cooperatives keep the lights on with remarkably small teams, and they’re being asked to integrate more DERs just as many of their most experienced operators retire. They shouldn’t need a large-utility scale budget to get modern operations tools. Bringing OpenDSO to Google Cloud Marketplace puts that capability within their reach,” said Wade Malcolm, CEO of Open Energy Solutions.
Agentic AI from the grid edge to the operator
OpenDSO uses agentic AI that divides the work between the grid edge and the cloud. At the edge, machine learning models and agents built on Google’s Gemma models can handle anomaly detection, inference, and notification close to the devices they monitor, so problems are caught and escalated without waiting on a round trip to the cloud. At the enterprise level, operator assistant interfaces built on Gemini let staff ask about system conditions in plain language, review recommended actions, and get guidance on unfamiliar events.
“When a senior operator retires, years of judgment go with them: which alarms matter, which can wait, and what to do when something looks wrong. Small utilities feel that loss first, because there’s often no one else in the building who knows. Gemma-based agents at the edge keep watch and raise the right alerts, and Gemini-enabled assistants give the operator on-shift the context and next steps a senior colleague would once have provided. Operators stay in charge; the AI makes sure they never make a call without the full picture,” said Rudran.
Availability and procurement
The OpenDSO Distributed Energy IoT Platform is available now on Google Cloud Marketplace. Utilities can engage OES through private offers, use their existing Google Cloud procurement and billing relationship, and deploy OpenDSO in their own Google Cloud tenant, including hybrid configurations with edge workloads.
